How are Castles Made?

It took ALOT of work to build a castle. Many people had to be involved to pull it off. Some of the people who worked on the castles were stonemasons. There were three masons; the mastermasson, the freemason, and the roughmasson. The mastermasson was a highly paid foreigner who was in charge of the building of the castle. The freemasson were under the master masons they could cut freestone into ANY shape that was needed. Under the freemasson was the roughmasson they prepared and cut the stones for complex work. Another worker as a blacksmith, he made and worked with anything made out of metal.

Tools weren't very complex, they were simple. Some tools they used were a ginlet. It made small holes in the wood for nails to go into. Another tool was a carpenters brace, it was very simple abut got the job done! To help cut the wood they had a carpenters adze. It was very much like an ax but the blase was turned to the side to cross the handle. They also had brushes which were simply just bundles of hair tied to a wooden handle.

Castle walls had to be able to hold up. To make the walls waterproof, the workers made walls from a mix of clay, animal dung, and horse hair. Oh goodness could you imagine the smell of that when it rained? P.U! The shingles on the roof were made from split oak logs into thin, flat rectangles called shingles. They were cheap and light weight but large shingles had to be replaced more often because the rotted faster than regular wood.
